Komas Office Building

Salt Lake City, UT

The Komas office building at 630 Komas Drive, is one of the last projects built on the remaining pieces of undeveloped property at the University of Utah Research Park in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The three-story, 63,000 square foot office and laboratory research building is owned by the Woodbury Corporation. Blackrock Microsystems is its primary tenant. Blackrock provides enabling tools for the neuroscience, neural engineering and neuroprosthetics research and clinical community worldwide. The new facility features a built-in clean room to serve the fabrication needs of the company’s clean-tech implantable systems. The clean room facilitates the product development and manufacturing needs of the residents of Blackrock’s incubator space, which comprises approximately half of the facility’s physical space.

“The completion of this most advanced new facility is a tremendous addition to the University of Utah community,” said David W. Pershing, president of the University of Utah.

A sunscreen on its west and south elevations gives the building some unique visual characteristics that also promote energy efficiency.
