The Kimball on Main
Park City, Utah
The Kimball on Main is a 14,500 sf historical renovation and a 20,000 sf three-story addition. The project combines historical and contemporary architecture at the most exclusive and distinctive retail location on Main Street in Park City. The project includes the historic restoration of the Kimball Garage. The building received substantial seismic upgrades and a complete interior remodel. Additionally, the project removed the existing deck and plaza structure to allow for a new 20,000 sf, three story, concrete and steel structure. This new, connected structure is designed to complement the historic elements of the original construction. The Kimball provides class A retail, restaurant, and public event space. Committed tenants are the Summit Art Gallery, We Norwegians and LL Bean.
The work on the original building project required extensive bracing and shoring systems to preserve the original board formed concrete walls. New structural components effectively relieve the original walls of the original loads. After these upgrades were completed we restored the original bowed roof trusses and framed a new roof system matching the appearance of the historical roof, but design to resist a seismic event. Additionally, construction was surrounded by two Sundance Film Festivals, two women’s march protests and two, tourist heavy ski seasons.
